Trigger warning - self harm, mental health crisis, mention of suicidal thoughts

5 years ago - I was a month postpartum and I hated it. I held my baby but I didn’t enjoy it, I wanted to hide away and pretend it wasn’t happening. 5 years ago today I was diagnosed with severe post partum depression. So bad in fact I was hours away from being blue lighted for my own safety. Now I know what I should have been diagnosed with is postpartum psychosis. I was hallucinating, terrified people were coming to take my baby. I was barely sleeping and I was self harming.

In the first picture, my smile hides the pain in my legs. Hundreds of cuts I’d done to try and numb myself to my mental health crisis.

The second photo, a family photo. Joe was beyond brave, facing this along side me, supporting me, also terrified but for me, what I would do if I was left alone.

I felt I was the problem, that my son, my partner would be better without me.

Photo 3 - I’m exhausted but starting to get help. Support from a charity that helped me learn I wasn’t alone and motherhood is hard!

Photo 4 - Cole is almost 1 here and it’s the first time I felt that rush of love that everyone says you get when they are born.

This isn’t a pity party, this is a reminder. For myself, for others - be kind, reach out and support people. Without those people around me, I wouldn’t be here today. A reminder for myself that I overcame my own spiralling mind and won. I wasn’t the problem and no one was to blame.

A reminder to all, that this too shall pass, things get better and there’s always a light shining to guide you through the darkest days

Everytime we run a session, I leave buzzing! Today was no different! Lots of laughs, a few tears, some baby cuddles all topped off by drinks and snacks. Seeing old faces and new, seeing all these little ones growing so quickly and knowing that what we are doing is making an impact in the best possible way! Our journey was a tough one. From Cole being verbal and developing “typically” to a regression that changed everything.

We find the positives in his diagnosis, we find the things he can do and we break everything down into manageable and achievable steps so we can make sure he’s successful as possible in everything!

Yes there are hard times, yes there are days when I ask “Why us?” But I am thankful every single day for him, his brain and how he sees the world!

Here’s to making the world more accessible, more aware and kinder 🥰🥰

The words Autism hit our family hard and sometimes there are days that I grieve the before. The way you see the world is so different, the way you play, the way you communicate, the way you understand the world.

I’ll always be here for it, holding your hand when things get overwhelming or tough. I’ll be here guiding, teaching and supporting you. Fighting the fight for you. I’ll be standing proud as you thrive, not just survive.

The one who challenges me everyday, tests my patience but I’m in awe of him
The one who, without words, can make anyone laugh
The one who everyday that I see that smile, I’m thankful for every moment. Every time he’s hard word, every sleepless night, every repetitive appointment, all so so worth it.

This is also for two girls, I can’t share a picture of. E & S taught me what motherhood/auntie good was. Taught me to learn from my mistakes and admit when I’m wrong. What is the Fear - Tension - Pain cycle and how can effect your birth?

We've been programmed to be fearful of birth! And there's no need! You need to trust your body.

Fear - fight or flight, we get scared by the start of a contraction for example and that makes us tense up

Tension - Your adrenal glands kick in and flood adrenaline into your body, blood is diverted away from the uterus and the pain kicks in.

Pain - as the tension kicks in, the uterus's movement (contractions) become less effective and therefore more painful. The pain validates the fear and the cycle repeats.

If you haven't heard of it, do your research, consider hypnobirthing or a Doula to help calm you in birth so you don't face this when labour starts. Share with your pregnant friends!

2022 has been challenging. Life’s thrown more at me and my family than we expected. Challenges I never thought I’d face as a parent. But we made it, stronger than ever.

My kids are thriving, my home is happy. I’ve met some of the most amazing people this year, and friends that I know I’ll have for life.

Almost there, and so excited to be offering this service.

How this effects the hub-

So in short, it won’t. The hub will still offer free peer support, groups and cuppa clubs as well as some one off well-being sessions. But we’ll be moving in the direction of a social enterprise(we think) still lots of decisions to be made 😍

But you’ll see on the site soon that paid and free services will be available. These paid services help us gemerate an income (to live) as well as we’ll be accessing funding to continue and furthering support we offer.

My chins go on and on and on 😂

Just some fun, tonight’s the first night in a long time that I’m really stepping out of the comfort zone. Making an effort, people I don’t know. Anxiety on drive but I know when I’m out I’ll have fun.

Those moments pass, and it’s important to push yourself. Enjoy your weekend however you’re spending it , I’ll have a pint and be in bed by 9 I’m sure 😂

There’s something really powerful about being in nature, and reconnecting with nature.

It’s healing, intuitive and relaxing. When I’m having a bad day, or feeling overwhelmed, I get myself out into nature. Be it the forest or the beach, it’s soothing.

Not to mention damn beautiful.

So a quick reintroduction for new followers and a brief story time.

I’m Frankie, the founder of @meandmindhub. I started this because when I gave birth to my son in 2020, in the middle of the global pandemic, I suffered with severe Postpartum Depression and Postpartum Anxiety. I had Obsessive thoughts of who was going to hurt my son and I would obsessive over how I might hurt him.

Picture 1 - I’m 2 days postpartum and I always feel like super woman looking at this. I’d showered, ate, managed not to bleed all over my sofa and baby boy was happily eating. I felt so strong and powerful as a mother.

Picture 2- this picture makes me cringe. I was smiling, everyone expected me to be loving motherhood but inside, mentally, I was lower than anyone realised. I’d been self harming, cutting my thighs and scratching those cuts raw to try and drown out the obsessive intrusive thoughts I’d been having. Within days of this, I was told I should have been blue lighted due to my mental health. I was convinced someone was going to take my baby, my partner wasn’t allowed near us because I had convinced myself he was going to steal our son. I really feel for the lost woman in this photo, she is me but she’s not.

Picture 3- About 8 months into my recovery. I’d worked with an amazing charity who helped save my life. I was steadily taking anti depressants and had been working with the perinatal mental health team. This photo is one that I cherish. Coles hugging me and I remember just adoring him, my mind was quiet and peaceful.

After 21 months and a month of hellish symptoms and mood swings, I’m back to me. No meds, just me and it feels amazing!

Meds have their place, without them things wouldn’t have been successful for me, they worked along side my therapy and educating myself.
